The University of Piraeus has actively and successfully participated in the Erasmus+ programme for higher education and with the aim of European orientation continues its efforts for better and more substantial development of cooperation. At the same time, it holds the ERASMUS Extended Charter 31704-LA-1-2014-1-GR-E4AKA1-ECHE.
The programme action concerns European cooperation in the field of higher education and in particular includes: organised student exchanges for recognised periods of study and training, the academic credit transfer system (ECTS), mobility and exchanges of teaching and administrative staff, language preparation of students, etc.
For the academic year 2018-2019, the University of Piraeus has about 250 cooperation agreements in all three study cycles. It also holds two Jean Monnet Chairs.
Erasmus+
The mobility of students is only possible through bilateral agreements concluded by faculty members of the University and valid for the specific academic year. Responsible for bilateral agreements with European Universities are one or more professors (academic coordinators) in each Department. The selection of the students to be moved is made by the Academic Coordinator during February and March and applies throughout the following academic year (winter and spring semesters). Students can find out the names of the Academic Coordinators of their Department to whom they should apply and the Universities to which they can move from the relevant list posted in the Department of International and Public Relations of the University.
In addition to the general conditions for participation, the academic coordinators responsible for the bilateral agreements set additional criteria which they must make public in the vacancy notices they post. In order to choose the University to which they wish to move, students must first apply to the Academic Coordinators and find information about the University concerned. On the websites of all the Universities, where reference is made to International Relations and in particular to the Erasmus+ programme, there are instructions on the registration procedure, the curriculum, the duration of semesters, accommodation and other practical matters necessary for outgoing students. Students can also consult the information files of the partner universities from the archive kept at the University’s Department of International and Public Relations during public hours, Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday 10:00-14:00 and Thursday 12:00-16:00.
In addition, the Erasmus+ programme, gives the opportunity to students and recent graduates of the University of Piraeus to move for internships in Universities, Companies and Organizations in the countries participating in the programme with the aim of gaining work experience in an international environment.
