European Insurance Card

Issue of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for undergraduate and postgraduate students and doctoral candidates who move to EU countries and have no other health and hospital care.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students and doctoral candidates, who have no other medical and hospital care, are entitled to full medical and hospital care in the National Health System (NHS), with the relevant costs covered by the National Health Service Organization (NHS).

The issue of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for the above categories of students who move to countries of the European Union, exclusively for the period of their mobility due to studies, as well as the coverage of any expenses incurred, continues to be carried out by the services of the Institution, under the terms and conditions in force. In order to issue the EHIC, the service will check that the student is not covered by another insurance institution from the data of the Register of uninsured citizens kept at EDIKA SA.

Procedure for issuing the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

For the issuance of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), confirmation from the Department of International and Public Relations of the University is required for the country and the period of mobility of the person concerned.

Then the person concerned:

Completes and submits to the Department of Student Care

  • Application for an EHIC (model 1) accompanied by:
  • A photocopy of the identity card.
  • Declaration of Responsibility (model 2).

The Department of Student Care informs the Department of International and Public Relations of the University for the issuance of the card (no intervention of the person concerned is required), in order to complete the process of signing the relevant contract.

The receipt of the card is carried out by the Department of Student Care before the departure of the person concerned, after the completion of a Declaration of Responsibility. (model 3).

At the end of the mobility (expiry of the planned period or return earlier than the planned period), the person concerned must immediately inform the Student Care Department and return the card accompanied by a Declaration of Responsibility:

a) In case of non-use (model 4).

b) If the card is not used (model 5).

In case b, a certificate from the competent health institution/health service (hospital unit) in the host country is required.

In case of loss of the card, a Declaration of Responsibility with the authentic signature from the Citizen Service Center or Police Station is required. (model 6).
