Panagiota Sapouna is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. She holds a PhD, as well as an MBA and a BSc in Accounting and Finance, from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB).

Before joining the University of Piraeus, she held full-time academic positions in UK higher education institutions. Notably, she was appointed as Lecturer in Management and served as the Programme Leader for the MSc in International Business Management at Glasgow Caledonian University. Additionally, she was employed as an Early Career Fellow in Strategic Management at the University of Stirling. Alongside her academic roles in the UK, she completed a two-year post-graduate programme in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education and was awarded the title of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in the United Kingdom. She also, held academic positions at the AUEB, where she served as an Adjunct Lecturer and Research Fellow.

Her research focuses on strategic management and entrepreneurship, particularly on corporate and business-level decision making, internationalisation strategies, entrepreneurial choices, and decision making under uncertainty. She has presented her work at international conferences, published in peer-reviewed journals (i.e., Journal of Small Business Management, International Small Business Journal, Management International Review και The International Journal of Human Resource Management), and contributed to research and consultancy projects. She has also participated in European transnational research projects and served as a scientific editor and reviewer for international publications in International Business, Management, and Entrepreneurship.

In addition to her role at the University of Piraeus, she serves as an External Examiner for UK higher education institutions, including Staffordshire University and Glasgow Caledonian University, in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship.

In parallel with her academic work, from 2016 to 2025, she held the position of Review Auditor at the Dispute Resolution Unit of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) in Greece, where she has been engaged in the resolution of complex tax and audit disputes.
