In the framework of the European project DigHealth, implemented through an international consortium of universities and organizations from Europe and Africa, a delegation of higher education institutions from Ethiopia and Somalia visited the Metaxa General Anticancer Hospital of Piraeus on 2 October 2025.

The international collaboration fostered by the DigHealth project aims to strengthen education in the field of digital health by developing micro-credentials tailored to the educational needs and technological capabilities of each partner country. On the European side, the project involves the University of Piraeus, RIT Croatia, the Catholic University of Croatia, and the organization IHF. From Africa, participating institutions include Addis Ababa University, Jigjiga University, Bule Hora University, the University of Hargeisa, HIU, and SOYEDA.

• During the visit to Metaxa Hospital, participants attended specialised presentations and workshops focusing on topics such as:
• The use of digital applications and telemedicine in oncology care.
• The importance of health data management and the integration of innovative technologies in hospital practice.
• Examples of good practices for training healthcare personnel through modern learning methods.
• The role of interdisciplinary collaboration in providing comprehensive services to patients.

Participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences with the hospital’s medical and scientific staff, gain insight into the organization of its services, and learn about the technological innovations applied in the field of cancer care.

This activity was part of a five-day study programme on good practices and technological innovation, held in Greece from 29 September to 3 October 2025, and represents an important step toward strengthening cross-border cooperation between European and African universities with the shared goal of knowledge exchange and the advancement of digital health.
