Η Κλαίρη Οικονομίδου είναι Καθηγήτρια Μακροοικονομικής στο Τμήμα Οικονομικής Επιστήμης του Πανεπιστημίου Πειραιώς. Εκλέχθηκε Επίκουρος Καθηγήτρια στο Τμήμα στα τέλη του 2009, εξελήχθηκε σε Αναπληρώτρια Καθηγήτρια το 2014 και ανακυρήχθηκε (πρωτοβάθμια) Καθηγήτρια το 2018.

Πριν γίνει μέλος του Πανεπιστήμιο Πειραιώς, ήταν Επίκουρος Καθηγήτρια στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Ουτρέχτης (Utrecht University), Utrecht School of Economics (USE) στην Ολλανδία από το 2004 μέχρι και τα τέλη του 2009. Πριν τον διορισμό της στην Ολλανδία, το 2004 και για έξι μήνες, ήταν ασκούμενη στη EUROSTAT (European Commission, Τομέας Εμπορίου) στο Λουξεμβούργο.

Κατέχει Διδακτορικό Δίπλωμα (Ph.D.) από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM, 2004), Μεταπτυχιακό (M.A) στην Οικονομική Επιστήμη από το Πανεπιστήμιο Μακεδονίας, Θεσσαλονίκη (2000) και βασικό πτυχίο (B.Sc.) στα Μαθηματικά από το Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης (1997).

Τα ερευνητικά της ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζονται στα πεδία της Οικονομικής Μεγέθυνσης και των Οικονομικών της Καινοτομίας και Τεχνολογίας. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, η τρέχουσα έρευνά της μελετά τους μηχανισμούς διάχυσης της τεχνολογικής γνώσης, καθώς και την επίδραση αυτών στην τοπική καινοτομία και οικονομία, τον ρόλο της χρηματοδότησης στην καινοτομία των επιχειρήσεων, και τον ρόλο των θεσμών (και του κοινωνικού κεφαλαίου) στη διαμόρφωση της καινοτομίας και επιχειρηματικότητας, ανάμεσα σε άλλα θέματα.

Το ερευνητικό της έργο, και συγκεκριμένα περισσότερα από 30 άρθρα, έχει δημοσιευθεί σε διακεκριμένα επιστημονικά περιοδικά, όπως European Economic ReviewJournal of Development EconomicsJournal of Economic Behavior and Organization, μεταξύ άλλων, και η έρευνά της έχει χρηματοδοτηθεί από ευρωπαϊκούς (European Research Grants (Horizon)) και εθνικούς (ΕΣΠΑ) πόρους.

Έχει επιβλέψει ένα αξιόλογο αριθμό Υποψήφίων Διδακτόρων και Μεταδιδακτορικών Ερευνητών, των οποίων η έρευνα έχει χρηματοδοτηθεί από εθνικούς (Τράπεζα της Ελλάδος) ή Ευρωπαϊκούς φορείς (Horizon2020, ΕΣΠΑ). Η ερευνητική της ομάδα απαρτίζεται από οκτώ μέλη: Ευαγγελία Γεωργίου (Ph.D.), Κωνσταντίνος Δελλής (Post-Doc), Δημήτρης Καραμάνης (Post-Doc), Αλεξάνδρα Κεχρινιώτη (Ph.D.), Έλενη Κυρκοπούλου (Post-Doc), Δημήτρης Κωνστάντιος (Post-Doc), Φώτης Ντελής, (Ph.D.), και Σοφία Ξεσφίγγη (Post-Doc).
