The 1st meeting of the members of the EURO Working Group on Environmental Planning, which took place last July during the Barcelona EURO/INFORMS Conference, has been an excellent opportunity for some of us to come together, meet with old good friends as well as make new ones, and exchange ideas regarding the future of our Group.
Some of the ideas expressed during the meeting may be put immediately into action, while others have to mature with further discussions. Indeed, suggestions like the following may be immediately accepted as promoting the Group's objectives: 1. Organise tutorials and panel discussions during EURO conferences, 2. Include special sessions on Environmental Planning, apart from EURO conferences, also in national conferences and meetings, 3. Include news regarding meetings on Environmental Planning in national bulletins, 4. Exchange of Ph.D. theses on Environmental Planning among interested members of the Group, 5. Exchange of software on Environmental Planning, 6. Maximize information in our Group's web page (GAIA) concerning all fields of Environmental Planning applications, 7. Send proposals for new initiatives for our Group in the GAIA site.
I would strongly encourage all members of the Group to note the above and take respective action wherever possible.
On the other hand proposals like "organise meetings in different countries" are not easy to get implemented. However we should look for opportunities to organise such meetings. All ideas welcome!
It is important to note that all those present in the meeting agreed that our Group's existence is meaningful, as there are services of real value to be offered to the members of the Group. However, it is important that all of us contribute with new suggestions and ideas.
