Biography

Dr. N. Michelacakis is a Mathematics graduate of the University of Athens (B.Sc.) of Purdue University (M.Sc. in Algebraic Topology) and of University College London (Ph.D. in Algebraic Geometry).

Prior to his appointment at the Economics Department of the University of Pireaus, he has taught as a visiting member, amongst others, at the Fourier Institute in France, the Mathematics Research Institute in Hollande, the University of Crete, the University of Cyprus, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Author of a number of research articles, he has received funding from the Onassis Foundation, the SERC UK, the University College London, the Mathematics Research Insitute of Holland and the European Union.

Research Interests

His research interests relate to problems that
  • in Pure Mathematics could be best described as falling into the broader areas of Algebraic Topology, Algebraic Geometry and related Algebra while
  • in Economics in the areas of General and Applied Equilibrium Theory, Theoretical and Applied Game Theory, Industrial Organisation, Incomplete Markets and Fiscal and Monetary Policy.
